The
Office Technician (Typing)will be directed by the Hospital General Services Administrator II in General Services at the Department of State Hospitals – Atascadero (ASH). The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:
- Operate the computerized communications console.
- Maintain departmental records, files and updates.
- Assist with data entry in various databases.
Eligibility: To be considered for this career opportunity, applicants must have eligibility by way of one of the following: reachable on a certification list, have transfer eligibility, or have reinstatement eligibility.

Working Conditions
This position requires you to work within the Secured Treatment Area (STA).
Special Requirements
- The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Additional information regarding acceptable typing tests is available at the CalCareers.ca.gov website.
- The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.
- The position(s) require(s) Medical Clearance prior to being hired.
- Candidates must submit a valid typing certificate with a minimum speed of 40 NET Words Per Minute (WPM)that meets CALHR Requirements . Typing tests for certification must be 5 minutes in length and proctored either virtually or in person. Candidates that are current State employees in a typing classification do not need to submit a typing certificate.
- Candidates that need a proctored typing test may reach out to the DSH-Atascadero Employment Office at (805) 468-3384 to schedule one at our facility.
- Candidates who believe they meet the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) based on a pattern of education, as outlined in the classification description (specifications), must submit a copy of their unofficial college transcripts showing how many units completed with their application (STD. 678). Higher degrees cannot be accepted as proof of a lower degree.
- Transcripts must include candidate's name, the name of the school, and the date the degree was conferred, if applicable, in order to be considered for this position.
- Foreign transcripts must include verification for US equivalency from an independent company.
- Please ensure that the birthdate and social security number are redacted from the transcripts.
- If you are not using education to meet the MQs, you may instead use the bypass option (when applying, select Choose/Upload for the required document and then select Bypass File).
- If using Out of Class (OOC) experience to meet minimum qualifications, you MUST provide a copy of the approved OOC Completion Memorandum certifying your OOC experience. Failure to submit the required documents will result in the OOC experience not being applied towards meeting the minimum qualifications of the classification.
