Job Summary
We are seeking a Technical Writer for a direct hire opportunity in El Segundo, CA, supporting technical documentation for software products in the telecommunications services industry. This role is ideal for a highly organized, detail-driven documentation professional who enjoys working independently while partnering closely with software developers and technical teams.
The Technical Writer will create, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve user guides, manuals, release notes, templates, documentation repositories, and structured content. This is a strong opportunity for a documentation specialist who wants to contribute to product quality, improve user experience, and work in a collaborative software environment with supportive technical leadership and cross-functional teamwork.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, update, and maintain user guides, manuals, technical documentation, release notes, and product support content.
- Partner with software developers to gather technical details, document new features, and update existing content as software products evolve.
- Manage documentation repositories, templates, CSS files, style standards, and documentation workflows.
- Review, edit, proofread, and test documentation for clarity, accuracy, consistency, formatting, and usability.
- Troubleshoot documentation tools, imports, exports, targets, macros, batch files, and publishing issues.
- Maintain compliance with documentation standards while improving content structure, readability, and quality.

Required Qualifications and Skills
- Create and maintain technical documentation for software products, including user guides, manuals, release notes, and structured content.
- Manage documentation repositories, templates, CSS files, and publishing workflows.
- Collaborate with software developers to update documentation for new software releases and product changes.
- Troubleshoot documentation tools, file structures, scripts, and publishing issues.
- 10 years of technical writing experience.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, including styles, templates, and macros.
- Strong hands-on experience with MadCap Flare, including imports, export targets, styles, variables, project maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Pro, including actions, document conversion from .docx to .pdf, and minor PDF editing.
- Working knowledge of XML, HTML, CSS, batch files, command line tools, and structured authoring concepts.
- Experience with version control tools, including Subversion, TortoiseSVN, and Git repositories.
- Familiarity with Eclipse, virtual machines, Remote Desktop, PuTTY, FTP, Photoshop, SnagIT, and text editing tools.
- Ability to write, read, modify, and troubleshoot .bat files.
- Strong writing, editing, proofreading, organization, and documentation quality control skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work independently and coordinate effectively with developers.
- Strong time management, prioritization, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of regular expressions and advanced search techniques.
- Ability to read and modify JavaScript.
- Ability to read, edit, or create Visual Basic code, especially for Word macros.
- Familiarity with Visual Studio.
- Exposure to mainframe computing.
- Unix experience.
